About the Realtor
Alan Graham
Growing up on Panama City Beach, I have been able to experience the change over the past 40 years from "Mom & Pop" businesses to condominiums and nightlife. My family's motel catered to families from the 50's to the 80's when most family vacations lasted a week. That's because back then companies shut down for the week, or a week at the beach was a custom. Most of our guests at the Eldorado Motel returned year after year to stay in the same rooms. Our guests from every small town in Alabama and Georgia made life long friends who exchanged letters, attended collage, and some even married. The best attractions were The Miracle Strip Amusement Park, Goofy Golf, Snake-a-torium, Angelo's Steak Pit, Capt. Anderson's, and the Davis Queen Fleet for deep sea fishing.
Still training today!
Competitive bodybuilding career spanning 15 years with over 20 titles. Most notable are Mr. Florida 1982, a 2nd place in the Mr. U.S.A in 1983 and 10th in Mr. America 1983. My last competition was in 1985, Mr. Gold Coast Florida, a drug free event. I always competed drug free, and I still continue to train 5 days a week. I use bodybuilding as a vehicle to talk about a relationship with Christ on mission trips with my church, St. Andrew Baptist Church. I also sing solo in the church choir.....so low I hope nobody hears how bad I am!
Panama City Beach has been slower to develop than other areas such as Destin, Ft. Walton, and South Walton. We have been referred to as the "Redneck Riveria". The reason stems from our roots of the mom and pop small property ownership and the fact that most of our fine guests were hard working people from L.A. (that's lower Alabama for all you northerners). Our neighbors to the west 50 years ago were large government owned parcels of property. As the military sold off large tracts to private developers, large planned unit developments were built. That's why you see large condo developments in Destin and Ft. Walton.
The development of our beaches is really just beginning. Property values and development costs skyrocketed in other areas, and so development moved to our area. That's a good thing because Panama City Beach has the opportunity to see mistakes made by other rapid growth areas in Florida. Accessibility, affordable accommodations, family attractions, entertainment, and adventure tourism will be the draw of Panama City Beach in the future. I look forward to the day when Panama City Beach will be known as the "Rolex Riveria".
Consider our new International Airport to be completed in 2009; how about Pier Park with shops, restaurants, and an open air amphitheater to be completed in 2007. Hwy. 79 and Hwy. 77 will be four-laned to I-10 in 3 years, not to mention the spur of I-65 that will end up at the new airport.
What a blessing to live in the most beautiful coastal community in the Southeast. GOD BLESS YOU!
